The United Way of York County, SC, held our Annual Campaign Kick-off on September 12th at the Hood Center, sponsored by Duke Energy and Publix. The luncheon celebrated 75 years of serving our local community. Scott Wells, Board of Directors, delivered our 75th Anniversary Reflections speech. He stated, "Remembering our past helps build our future." In 1942, the United Way of Rock Hill was founded and raised $24,800 in support of four agencies. Two of those agencies, the Salvation Army and he YMCA remain our partners today.
Scott Wells introduced Wes Hayes who is serving as our Campaign Chairman for the 2017-2018 Campaign. It was noted that Wes served in this same role during our 50th Anniversary. Wes encouraged everyone in attendance to be part of providing solutions for positive change in our community by giving to the United Way. The goal for our 2017-2018 Annual Giving Campaign is $1.53 million. Wes stated that he is confident we will meet this goal with everyone's participation and that he is counting on them to make a difference.
Patrick White, incoming Board Chairman, recognized several board members who were rotating off after serving many years. The following were recognized for their service: Dan Ballou, Susan Brackett, Phyllis Fauntleroy, Kimberly Faust, Mike Hill, Andy Kaplan, Martha Jean Starnes, and Scott Wells.
Rebecca Melton, United Way President, recognized Harvey Hawkins for his outstanding leadership as Board Chairman for the past two years. She thanked him for his leadership, his volunteer time, his ability to help make tough decisions, but most of all for his passion of always helping others.
