This will be the third Project Connect event held in York County. York County's first ever Project Connect was held Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the Emmett Scott Center in Rock Hill, SC. Community volunteers came together to provide homeless individuals in our community with a variety of services during this one-day one-stop event. Some services included hair cuts, resume building, health screenings, lunch and clothing.
More than 160 homeless individuals attended. Leadership York County members and volunteers were excited about the turnout.
Please consider joining us this year, either as a returning volunteer or to contribute for the first time, and experience how Project Connect is touching local lives. Below are comments from some of our former volunteers.
"People actually took advantage of the services that were being offered. That was the most important part of the day."
"This is what it means to 'give back.' ... Project Connect was an exact display of what 'should' be happening to help all people!"
"The name Project Connect implies one common goal with many different functions and that's exactly what was represented. The
camaraderie from many different agencies was priceless. Who would of thought that there were so many different calibers of businesses working together to fulfill a purpose greater than ourselves. I remember seeing the smiles for some after eating, for others after receiving a haircut or just to know the possibility of getting a flu shot was available. This was a wonderful idea that needs to be continued for future use."
"Thank you so much for the opportunity to volunteer. We had a great time and we look forward to helping again next year."
